Commitment to commerce based on the importance of bringing people together

Thanks for your interest. Here’s some information about us.

Kyugetsu was founded in 1835 as a typical Japanese doll-manufacturing wholesaler. It sells sekku dolls – typically hina dolls and dolls for the Boys’ Festival – as well as battledores and hamayumi ceremonial bows. The company also markets year-round products such as Japanese dolls, French dolls, Hakata dolls and stuffed dolls. Kyugetsu also runs the Ningyo Gakuin doll school to raise awareness of Japanese doll culture. The affiliate company Hisamori Jitsugyo also manufactures stuffed dolls and other items toward the development and manufacture of related products.

The company’s commercial strategy focuses on sekku dolls, which account for 80% of its annual sales.

Success in the sekku doll market requires brisk sales during the limited time window from a few months before each sekku festival to the end of the festival. The intensity of the busy and quiet periods in this industry is particularly marked.

The Kyugetsu credo of excelling during busy times in particular underpins the company’s status as an industry leader. The work ethic involves thorough devotion during peak periods and downtime when things are slow. We seek highly-motivated people capable of working in this way.

By bringing such staff together and letting them shine, we aspire to fulfill our responsibility to maintain Japan’s deeply rooted doll tradition. Sekku dolls are generally given by parents and grandparents in the hope that children will grow big, strong and compassionate, and are thus an expression of love. The custom of displaying sekku dolls every year helps children appreciate how much their parents and grandparents love them. Observation of seasonal festivals also provides opportunities for family interaction and bonding.

The company’s fundamental philosophy involves bringing people together, and its Ningyo Gakuin doll school supports a passion for benevolent doll craft. This underpins a commitment to the importance of love for people and things.
